In January 2020 a group of women trekked to Everest Base Camp led by an amazing team of Take on Nepal women guides. This journey was documented by Tania Verbs, Tania carried heavy equipment with her up ad down the Base Camp trek in very challenging Winter conditions. Tania’s commitment to sharing the stories of 3 of our female guides resulted in the award winning documentary “Women Take on Nepal”, the short film was screened around the world and took out the top award at the Sony Film Festival. We knew Tania would show the world how truly incredible and inspiring the women of Take on Nepal are, it is a story of strength through adversity and of the collective power of women who support one another.
The documentary highlights the importance of our work in Nepal and of the need to support women who are often forced into early marriages or trafficked into brothels in India and the middle east. The women guides of Take on Nepal all come from remote villages where to break free of cultural expectation are non existent.
Take on Nepal changed this and offered dozens of young women well paid work, training and an education. This is a story worth sharing and one you must watch: We would love for you to meet Kamala, Phulmaya and Samjhana in person, join one of our treks to Everest and you will not only have the most incredible experience imaginable, you will also be supporting the young and very brave women who are choosing a different path.
